Many people often wonder what the benefits of vinyl fencing are and why they should consider vinyl over traditional wood. Below are the most commonly asked questions when it comes to vinyl fencing and decking. What is vinyl? The vinyl fencing and decking Trost Plastics installs is an exclusive, time-tested formula of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other critical ingredients such as U.V. inhibitors and impact modifiers. These 100% virgin ingredients are blended for long-term durability, flexibility and weatherability.
How is vinyl made? The vinyl we use is pressed through dies using a state-of-the-art process called coextrusion. Through extreme heat and pressure, the two layers are molecularly bonded and cannot be physically separated. This process allows for superior control over the distribution of vital ingredients.
Will it fade or discolor? Unlike the mass-produced plastic products you may be familiar with, the vinyl Trost Plastics uses is engineered to maintain its true color for a lifetime.
What about sun damage? Just like when we spend time in the sun, vinyl needs a sunscreen. For superior protection, the industry-leading standard of 10 parts per 100 of Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) is used on all vinyl fencing we install at no extra charge. Like SPF40 sunscreen, this costly UV inhibitor protects your fence or deck from the damaging rays of the sun.
Does heat or cold affect vinyl fencing? Vinyl performs well through the scorching summers of Arizona as well as the freezing winters of Minnesota. Additives called impact modifiers are what keep the Heritage vinyl we use flexible and resilient through the years.
Is it strong? Vinyl fencing has five-times the tensile strength of wood AND four-times the flexibility. For example, a 6" x 12" piece of Teck Deck weighs slightly over a pound, yet it can support weights up to 564 pounds per square foot. The same resilient vinyl fence originally created to contain livestock will easily protect your family and secure your home.
How can I maintain the beauty of my vinyl fence? 1)Purchase an ordinary,long-bristled car washing brush at your auto suppy store. This brush has soft bristles and the handle fastens onto the end of your hose. It lets you wash the fence just like you wash your car. 2)If the dirt is hard to remove, such as soot and grime, wipe down the fence with a solution made up of the following: 1/3 cup powdered detergent. (Ex., Tide,All or equivalant) 2/3 cup household cleaner. ( Ex., Spic & Span, Soilax) 1 gallon of water. 3) If mildew is a problem in your area, use the solution above but substitute 1 quart of liquid laundry bleach for 1 quart of water. 4) If you want to wash down your fence, start at the bottom and work up to the top to prevent streaking.
Is it safe? Thousands of homeowners and businesses have chosen vinyl fence and deck products specifically for their safety advantages. Smooth, sliver-proof surfaces, rails that flex upon impact and non-skid deck surfaces are examples of the features Heritage vinyl includes in the vinyl fencing and decking that Trost Plastics will custom install for you. Heritage Co. vinyl products set industry standards by meeting or exceeding national and local safety and building codes. We at Trost Plastics can advise you on code requirements in the St. Louis and Southern Illinois areas.
What about environmental concerns? From protecting your children to preserving old-growth forests, vinyl fencing and decking is an environmentally-wise choice. Trost Plastics installs lifetime home improvement products to replace traditional "disposable" materials. Unlike wood that exposes your family to hazardous chemical treatments, our products are created in controlled factory environments using stringent safety standards.
